A Systems Design for a Prototype Space Colony

6.Il6 VI.I.9: REMARKS The Rankine heat pump performance can be altered by lowering the evaporator temperature (T 1 or T 4 ) below 280°K. This cannot be done if the refrigerant is water (freezing point= 273°K), but is quite possible with Refrigerant 11 (freezing point= 162°K) and 12 (freezing point= 115°K). The moisture in the hull's air then condenses in the evaporator, useful for humidity control, but posing icing problems. A lower evaporator temperature also lessens the required mass flow of the hull's air.
