A Systems Design for a Prototype Space Colony

8. 15 significance of a 3-high mill is that the plate can be rolled in one direction, then raised and rolled back through the other pair of rollers in the reverse direction without ever revising the direction of the rollers (see Figure 8.4). Like the blooming mill, this mill also has a shear with inclined blades to crop and cut the plate to roughly finished size lm x lm. The mill also includes all the necessary conveyors and pushers to move the work to and from the stand. The product of the plate mill is rough plate with thickness 4 to 50 mm and width 100 to 1200 mm . The following are the details of the mill: Power Mass Required Output Maximum Output 2500 kW 1300 tons Tons/hr 25 Tons/hr VIII.4.3.4: The Billet Mill: The billet mill reduces the blooms coming from the blooming mill down to billets with cross sections from 75 mm x 75 mm to 60 mm x 60 mm. The billet mill presented here represents two stands of the second train of a 730/530 billet mill (8.6). There is one horizontal and one vertical stand, each of reversing two high type, with 530 mm rolls. The mill also includes a shear. The specifications of the mill are as follows: Power Mass Required Output Maximum Output Each Stand llOO kW 600 T .4 T/hr 30 T/hr 2200 kW 1200 T .4 T/hr 30 T/hr VIII.4.3.5: Light Section Mill: As its name implies, the light section mill rolls the billets down into light section: either rounds of diameter 10-40 mm, squares of size 10-40 mm on a side, or strips up to 40 mm thick and up to 120 mm wide. The two stands
