Department of Energy: SPS Brightness Due to Reflected Sunlight

Several configurations where bright reflections are directed earthward have been analyzed to ascertain the level of ground illumination. Typical situations include the daytime reflections from the SB at LEO, OTVs in transit near LEO at dawn and dusk, OTVs near GEO, and SPSs at GEO around the equinoxes. All parameters and the required approach to determining sky brightness have been defined. A specific example of sky brightness determination has been computed to illustrate our approach.
