Eurospace, therefore, makes the following recommendations, Recommendation 1: Eurospace recommends that ESA requests from industry preliminary proposals for a Powersat Demonstration Programme in order to determine the level of interest within Europe for funded studies. If deemed significant, ESA should implement initial studies to clarify the viability of developing an inexpensive/near-term demonstrator. Recommendation 2: Euro space recommends that both laser and microwave studies be conducted in parallel throughout Phase 1 of a Powersat Demonstrator Programme. No choice between the two solutions should be made until at least the successful completion of Phase 1 activities. Recommendation 3: Eurospace recommends that ESA explores the possibility of conducting the Powersat Demonstrator Programme within the framework of the In-Orbit Technology Development Programme. Innovative management strategies should be encouraged in order to reduce costs further.
