(and launch cost) of servicing equipments like power sources, providing the driving parameters are followed. So. the use of Lithium power sources is considered. We hereafter discuss various types of products and applications, already developed or to be developed in a near future. 3.1 Low rate cells and batteries By Low rate, we consider cells able to be discharged with maximum currents of C/10 or less. These cells to be assembled in batteries, are spiral wounded cells derived from “commerciar grade cells, in the format of C, D, DD or F. Cell's capacities are in the range of 10 to 40 Amperes hours, and batteries are constituted by assembly of series of cells in parallel to obtain the required voltages and energies. Applications of that type of products are numerous, ranging from the single D cell of astronauts helmet light to the 38,75 kwh of Delta 191 Sensor Module battery. With that philosophy, as far as discharge current is less or equal to the current corresponding to a discharge in 10 hours, any of the Lithium couples could be selected and a battery can be built by assembling the required number of existing cells, to obtain the specified voltage and energy. Battery assembly techniques, reliability analyses to establish number and location of necessary blocking diodes, protection fuses and thermostats are available.
