/A NASA Cantor for tho Commercial Development of Space (CCDS) A Research Cantor of tho Texas Engineering Experiment Station * FACSIMILE TRANSMISSION • Friday, 6 March 1992 Mr. Ruaaell J. Hannigan Powersat Study Manager EUROPSPACE 16 Bl®, Avenue Bosquet 75007 Paris, France From: Alan M. Brown Project Engineer Center for Space Power Sub]: Review of Powersat Information Pages; 1 (including cover page) Remarks: Thank you again for providing your preliminary assessment of Powersat Systems and possible demonstrations. From our previous conversations, it is apparent that our strategies for the development of such systems are very much alike. The Center for Space Power strongly believes that achievable yet Inexpensive demonstration programs of "power beaming* are a required precursor to the further development of Important space systems such as a Powersat or an SPS. Your proposed demonstration appears to fulfill those requirements, by demonstrating those features of power beaming that will interest the decision makers as well as the scientific community. From a technical perspective, your proposed experiment appears feasible. As we discussed earlier, perhaps Texas A&M could participate In the development of the rectenna. In addition, your concept for using £band Mini-TWTs seems novel, and I would appreciate any Information you could forward to me concerning their operation. I would like to congratulate you on the work performed thus far, and would greatly appreciate you Including the Center for distribution of your final report.
