OScill President Gregg t- Marsniak Executive Vice President Re: Early, Low-cost power demonstrators Dear Russell, Thanks for sending me your excellent report information. I am in 100% agreement with your proposition that a very low cost test is an absolute requirement prior to investment (by governments or private capital sources) in a space power infrastructure. I'd like to incorporate your work in our thinking for ISU this Summer as we are very much interested in the technology demonstration issue. May we do so? Is there any chance that you could participate as a visiting lecturer in late July or early August? As promised, here (under separate cover) is some recent information on the Japanese space power program. It was given to us by the visiting delegation that was touring the US up to a few weeks ago. They seem to be rather serious and are investing in a cooperative (no funds transfer) research program between institutions in Japan as outlined herein. I hope to be in Japan, as I mentioned during March. Thanks for your invitation to your presentation. I won't be able to be there but would be delighted to review the materials (before or after). There is beginning to be some interest wdthin NASA on power beaming from Earth to space. In particular, there is a low level project looking at using a terrestrial FEL with an adaptive optics system to deliver about lOkw to a February 19, 1992
