This same approach was pursued in the 1971 Regulations to include definitions of deep space, spacecraft, satellite, active satellite, passive satellite, orbit, inclination of an orbit, period of a satellite, altitude of the apogee (perigee), geosynchronous satellite, and geostationary satellite. In all instances the 1959 definitions were altered. Important additions were also made. Among the definitions made were: spacecraft "a man-made vehicle which is intended to go beyond the major portion of the Earth's atmosphere," satellite "a body which revolves around another body of 23 UST 1576-1577, TIAS 7435.
