0.9 of the wet cooling tower value (Ref. 1). Thus, the 26.5% efficiency would become 24%. This change would by itself add over 110$/kWe to a 1000 $/kWe plant. In addition, the dry cooling tower would increase the Rankine plant costs by about 25$/kWt. The total cost impact is about 150$/kWe and a factor of 1/(0.90) more land and more waste heat. The total with dry cooling is about 1300$/kWe direct cost, and can be compared to the 1435$/kWe for the distributed generation (small Brayton engine) system. The number of dishes required for 150 MWe is about 7600 units. The visual impact will be that of a large number of 36 ft dishes arranged more or less in a circle around a conventional-looking power plant located at the center. Included would be several buildings and cooling towers. The above narrative is only a preliminary compilation of plant impact characteristics.
