1975 JPL DistributedNetwork Collectors

subsystems is 1110$/kWe. These results are shown in Table 11 for △T equal to about 55°C and this has been selected as the optimum system design point. The △T = 28°C design has large fluid pumping power loss, while the △T = 110°C v* design has a low turbine efficiency. A summary of system temperatures and efficiency characteristics is shown in Table 12 for the water transport system. The overall system efficiency is 23.2% with the miscellaneous (rest) system efficiency equal to 83.5%. This catch-all efficiency term is the product of 4.2.1.2 Steam Transport. A similar procedure as above was used for the power plant using steam transport. The subsystem results of Sections 3.2.1.3 and 3.3.2 are combined with the collector characteristics of Section 3.1 to establish the system design. The temperature of the water which is returned to the collector after feedwater heating was varied from 38°C (FTR = 0) to 250°C (FTR = 0.8). The Rankine plant efficiencies from Figure 17 in Section 3.3.2.1 were used. The energy transport model was used for 4608 collector to obtain the results shown below:
