SPS Feasability Study SD76SA0239-2

Figure 3.3-1. SPS Construction Facilities Operational installed position. The 60° diagonal truss is produced approximately 4 to 6 meters below the installed position (note centerlines with arrowheads). The machine support structure attached to the jig frame is interleaved to clear all SPS structures produced, including the case when these elements are in installed position. 3.3 MIRROR AND SOLAR-CELL BLANKET FABRICATION FACILITIES The mirror and solar-cell blanket fabrication facilities (Figure 3.3-1) consist of a vertex crawler complex, two wing-crane film deployment complexes, and a system of cable craneways that transport and install completed blanket assemblies into the SPS structure. The three complexes, which are approximately 700 meters long, are separately propelled from one satellite to the next independently from the SPS construction base complex. After at least two bays of the SPS structure are completed, the three blanket facilities may be attached to the SPS structure. The vertex crawler is mounted on the upper centerline tribeam column. The wing-crane complexes are attached one to each of the upper outboard SPS columns. These locations for the blanket facilities proved to be most accessible to OTV cargo transports and in least conflict with blanket installation and fastener requirements. Every 50 meters along the identified longerons, where longeron bracing occurs, a series of quick-connect/disconnect fittings (or other means) are installed. . Note that two rows per trussed column are available. In each of the blanket facilities there are two tank-track type, load-limited, attachment
