It was assumed for the analyses reported in the following paragraphs that the demonstration satellite would have a maximum life of 30 years for being able to remove portions of the power supply. The salvage value of the demonstration satellite when used as a source of power and other major subsystems for other space activities is summarized in Figure 3.6 and discussed below. The salvage value, SV, is SV = PV1 - PV2 - PV3 - PV4 - PV5 where PV1 is the present value of the non-SPS mission investment costs that may be foregone because of the utilization of the SPS demonstration satellite hardware.
