5.1 GTROCON The gyrocon is a recently developed type of microwave amplifier. While the demonstrated efficiency is only 23% (13), the theoretical efficiency is competitive with other microwave amplifiers, the design has a low non-lunar material content, and it is relatively simple in construction. The construction is basically stainless steel 8 mm thick, with .05 mm coatings of copper and titanium on the inside surfaces to increase electronic efficiency and suppress electrical discharges, respectively. The design point is a 200 kW RF output at 2.45 GHz, 80% efficiency. Table 5.1-1 gives the derived mass statement for the gyrocon. TABLE 5.1-1 DERIVED MASS STATEMENT FOR GTROCON
