This is of significance not because of the particular shape involved— there are many different possible shapes—but they all share certain things in common. In this picture, the essential elements are a workshop area where light industry would be carried out, an area for habitation inside, into which natural sunshine is brought, an area for agriculture outside, waste heat radiators which are radiating away into outer space the heat that is not being used directly inside, and, finally, shielding, which would reduce the cosmic ray intensity for the work force inside to about the same level that exists on the surface of the Earth. The next slide shows an exterior view of that particular geometry, showing the waste-heat radiators, the agricultural areas and mainly cosmic-ray-shielding, which, in our view, could be made of the industrial slag that would be produced in any case by the industrial activity going on there. 3/4 view schematic of Bernal Sphere Fig. A
