Ten a.m. having arrived, we will continue our hearings. Today we are continuing our hearings on solar power from satellites. Last Monday, the proponents of these various approaches informed the subcommittee about each one. Today we will hear the results of an independent NASA-funded economic and technical analysis of this concept from ECON, Incorporated. In addition, ERDA will relate their views on obtaining solar power from space. Finally, NASA will discuss their ongoing program in this area and the outlook for the future. Judging from the testimony we heard on Monday, we should be taking a hard look at using space as a basic source of energy. The witnesses today all have the expertise to give the subcommittee valuable assessments of this concept based on their preliminary studies. We are pleased to have these witnesses with us today: Dr. Edward Greenblat and Mr. Gregg Fawkes of ECON, Incorporated, accompanied by Dr. Heiss, president of ECON, who will make a few introductory remarks before we hear from Dr. Greenblat and Mr. Fawkes; Mr. John M. Teem, Assistant Administrator for Solar Geothermal and Advanced Energy Systems, Energy Research and Development Administration—Rope you get paid by your title—accompanied by Dr. Richard Blieden—-if I pronounce all these names right, you will have to excuse the Yellow Creek pronunciation—Assistant Director for Solar Electric Applications, ERDA; and
