CAPE CANAVERAL IN THE FUTURE The launch complex at Kennedy Space Center would provide the base for all the space transportation requirements for Powersat. It would be comprised of some existing facilities and some new. Launch Complex 39, built for the Saturn/Apollo Program and modified for the Space Shuttle, is shown on the left with Launch Pads A and B in the foreground. The runway for Space Shuttle landing is in the upper center. These facilities will be utilized by the upgraded Shuttle in its role of personnel and supply transport. The new lake to the right is the landing basin for the low Earth orbit freighter. Surrounding the lake are four launch pads connected by locks and canals, the freighter assembly facility and canal access to the Atlantic Ocean. A ground receiving antenna is shown in the upper right corner. Part of the power from this rectenna could provide the energy to manufacture the LH2/LO2 propellants for the transportation systems. The plant at which hydrogen and oxygen would be generated by the electrolysis of water is shown below the rectenna.
