A dozen freshmen in Dr. O'Neill’s course thought it through and came up with the undeniable answer: No. Space colonies, not planetary surfaces, provide the best means of breaking Earth’s chains and moving the human species into the Solar System. We have no need to answer the question again. The simplicity, the beauty, and the truth of the physics inherent in the answer have withstood the test of time.
