Space Solar Power Review Vol 5 Num 1

Titles Epidemiologic studies of microwave effects Source: Proceedings of the IEEE, Vol. 68, pp. 78-84, January 1980. Authors: Silverman, Charlotte; <US Dept, of Health, Education, and Welfare, Public Health Services and with the Division of Biological Effects, Bureau of Radiological Health, Food and Drug Administration, Rockville, MD 20857> Keywords: microwaves, Abstract: This is a selective review of human epidemiologic studies and related information concerning biologic and health effects of microwave radiation. Following a description of the objectives and methods of epidemiology, the approach to microwave effects is considered and two recent but not yet published ATTACHMENT : studies are described, namely, a study of U.S. naval personnel occupationally exposed to radar, and a study of American Embassy personnel in Moscow. Investigations of several reported or suspected adverse effects are assessed: ocular effects, nervous and behavioural effects, congenital anomalies, and cancer. Suggestions are offered for further epidemiologic research. Title: The biological significance of radiofrequency radiation emission on cardiac pacemaker performance Source: The United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine - Technical Report-76-4, January 1976. Authors: Mitchell, J.C.; Hurt, W.D.; Keywords: microwaves, Abstract: Results of tests conducted in 1974,1975 by USAF School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM), both in the USAFSAM RF laboratory and in close proximity to a series of Air Force RF emitters, demonstrate the significance of EM emission characteristics in the overall assessment of the EMI of cardiac pacemakers.
