Space Solar Power Review Vol 5 Num 1

ANNOUNCEMENT A Symposium on Heavy Charged Particle Beams in Research and Medicine will be held on 1-3 May 1985 at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, in Berkeley, California. The symposium has been scheduled for the week before the annual meeting of the Radiation Research Society in Los Angeles. The questions to be addressed will focus on how heavy charged particle beams (pions, protons, helium and heavy ions) are used currently and will be used in the future to study mechanisms of biological damage and to treat malignant disease. Invited speakers will present overview and summary talks on the present status of our knowledge in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine. Emphasis will be placed on fundamental and applied characteristics unique to these heavy charged particle beams. Low dose and dose rate effects relevant to the space radiation environment will also be covered. Ample time will be allowed for discussion, and lively participation by members of the audience will be encouraged. Further information regarding the program, accommodations, and registration is available by writing to: Dr. Stanley B. Curtis c/o Mrs. Mardel Carnahan Building 10, Room 202 Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Berkeley, CA 94720.
