To overcome these problems, the interconnectors suitable for ultrathin cells were newly designed. At the beginning of this program, out-of-plane-type interconnectors were designed in order to relieve the stress on the ultrathin cells, weld joints caused by thermal deformation between each cell and to extend fatigue life time. However these interconnectors needed careful handling because they protruded over the cell surface. So instead of out-of-plane-type interconnectors, in-plane-type interconnectors were designed. As for the materials, silver was chosen because it is pliable and has advantages of softening the compression on the thin cell while welding.
