Using a satellite shield with LiH for neutrons and tungsten for gamma rays as originally defined in Ref. 3, and adjusting for increased power and lower allowable radiation levels, the satellite shielding mass as a function of separation distance from the station is calculated in Fig. 5. This is the mass of a shielding system for a reactor with a net electrical output of 100 kW and a constant radiation level of 2 mRem/hour. Total mass of the reactor plus shielding is found by adding the reactor mass of 2600 kg. Cable mass is not included in the calculations.
