The state space of the system is described by a linear system of ordinary differential equations. Optimization involves transferring the initial state to a target state, with the constraints of minimal transfer time and control effort. Ten different gain control techniques are examined for convergence acceleration in the case of a digital differential analyzer interfacing with a general purpose computer. The feasibility of rapid convergence for 2nd and 3rd order systems is demonstrated, although energy considerations are necessary for 2nd order systems. (M.S.K.) The doping profiles and test circuits have not yet been optimized and we expect that still higher power and efficiency should be achievable.
