It is shown that there exist optimal values of the radius of the point tip and of the number of points of the autoemission cathode of the converter. It is concluded that fabrication difficulties can be held to a minimum by reducing the number of autocathode points to 10. (B.J.) For devices where both high frequencies and low magnetic fields are required, high cyclotron-harmonic interactions must be considered. A linear and nonlinear analysis of a TE(mll) whispering-gallery-mode gyrotron is presented. Resonances at the mth and (m + or 1 )th cyclotron harmonic are found. The start oscillation condition is calculated from linear theory for a wide range of parameters. Maximum efficiency for different beam and cavity conditions is calculated with a fully relativistic numerical simulation
