Electric Propulsion Experiment (EPEX) The MPD (Magnetoplasmadynamic) solar electric propulsion system is the most promising candidate for the future COTV (Cargo Orbit Transfer Vehicle), large structure station keeping, and planetary or lunar missions, where the propulsion system of high specific impulse and high thrust density is required. The mission defined here involves some engineering verification of this thruster system and a few experiments dealing with the interaction of exhaust plasma with the low Earth orbit environment.
