Space Solar Power Review Vol 7 Nums 3 & 4 1988

3.2 Test Programme Extensive qualification tests were planned for the mechanism at the component, subassembly and system levels. Deployment tests have been done with both air levitation type, and overhead suspension type zero-g test rigs. A major part of the test programme has been completed and the emerging solar array mechanism characteristics are: Deployment time = 5 sec Latchup shock (at SADA) = 140 nm Mass —Array subassembly (Substrate with cell network) = 19 kg per wing —Deployment mechanism (with harness looped) = 6 kg per wing • —Total (for 6 panels) = 50 kg
