converter at these higher frequencies. In addition, this circuit has all the aforementioned drawbacks of any link AC/DC converter. 3. Controlled Rectifier The circuit diagram of the controlled rectifier is shown in Fig. 24(c). In this circuit the output DC voltage is controlled by controlling the delay angle of the thyristors. This circuit generates large current harmonics in the supply lines, has a poor input power factor over a complete range of voltage control, and high EMI [12]. None of the above approaches satisfies the main design objectives of AC/DC converters for high frequency power distribution systems in space applications. A new class of AC/DC converter topology which seems to meet all of the main design objectives has been developed at Canadian Astronautics Limited (CAL). The main features of these new converters are briefly given in the following section.
