UF4 in liquid form was used as reactor fuel, as early as 1960, in the 2600 KWe Aircraft Reactor Experiment (ARE), and later in the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment (MSRE). The ARE used a mixture of UF4-ZrF4-NaF exiting at 1170 K; the MSRE used UF4-LiF-BeF2 at 1100 K.
