The performance of the mobile [4] and immobile KOH [5] electrolyzer are very similar, while that of the PEM electrolyzer is better at higher current densities (see Fig. 9). Note that the advantage of high cell voltage is offset by the poor current efficiency of the PEM electrolyzer. At high pressures and temperatures the gas permeation rate through the membrane is very high. Thus, the PEM electrolyzer only reaches the efficiency of the alkaline electrolyzers at current densities above 400 mA/cm2 (Fig. 10).
