If the measurement system has degraded to the point of not verifying the validity of critical measurements, then the computer directed relay system should degrade to manual control. The state estimation and bad meter detection function uses a mathematical model of the spacecraft power system to provide a consistent measurement set. Measurement inaccuracies and errors may be eliminated if a sufficient number of measurements are acquired. The minimum of the squared error between the measured and the calculated value is used to estimate the actual current flows through each piece of equipment, and the actual voltage supplied to each load. The acquisition of all voltages and currents is assumed to occur simultaneously at each measurement set. It is also assumed that the model parameters for all electrical equipment are known values. The system dispatch and parameter update function monitors the electrical demand for each load and then compares the actual electrical demand with the forecasted electrical demand. If possible, the load and/or generation is rescheduled. If the error is excessive, then the operator(s) is warned by an alarm message to regenerate the
