Announcing a New Association for Renewable Energy Educators IASEE The International Association for Solar Energy Education IASEE was founded in Goteborg, Sweden on 22 December 1989. Provisional by-laws were adopted, and an Organizing Committee as well as an Advisory Committee were elected. The purpose of IASEE is, as expressed by the first Article of the by-laws, to promote solar energy education worldwide by means of —publication of a Newsletter, —organization of international meetings, and —topical activities. ‘Solar energy’ here means direct use of the sun’s energy as well as other renewable sources of energy. The by-laws also state that IASEE shall seek status as the ISES (International Solar Energy Society) Working Group on Education. It is intended that by-laws are replaced by permanent ones at a first membership meeting scheduled to take place in Reading, UK, 26 September 1990, during the World Renewable Energy Congress. The Organizing Committee will conduct the IASEE business until the end of 1990, when it will be replaced by the first elected Board. The OC consists of: —Lars Broman, SERC, Borlange, Sweden; Chairman; —Konrad Blum, University of Oldenburg, BDR; Vice Chairman; —Aadu Ott, SERC, Goteborg, Sweden; Secretary-Treasurer; —Joy Clancy, University of Twente, The Netherlands; —R. L. Datta, Asiatic Gases Ltd, Bombay, India; -—Judit Pinter, Technical University of Budapest, Hungary. While the by-laws and the OC are temporary by nature, the Advisory Committee is meant to be a permanent feature of IASEE. Its members are persons with high international reputation in the field of solar energy, and a number of members will be added during 1990. The AC presently consists of: —Dr Nidal I. Al-Hamdani, SERC, Baghdad, Iraq; —Prof. Salah Arafa, The American University of Cairo, Egypt; —Prof. W. W. S. Charters, University of Melbourne, Australia;
