Specular Surface Table V, shows specular characteristics of glass, resin and plating. Both glass and resin were selected as possible materials from the viewpoint of reflectivity, weight, adherence to the substrate and thermal distortion. For the case of this study, only the glass version was constructed. We hope in the future to test the resin version as well. Reflective and Protective Surface An aluminium reflective coating and a SiO protective coating were selected. First, they are durable, and second, because KHI has already tested out the mirror coating techniques with the Experimental Geodetic Satellite. On the basis of all the studies given above, two kinds of CFRP/A1 Honeycomb construction (Fig. 15) were selected as candidates. As shown in Fig. 15(a), the construction with a glass specular surface has better reflectivity, while that with a resin specular surface is lighter in weight (Fig. 15(b)).
