In the high investment case, SPS is in a self-increasing condition in which the growth of SPS can be supported by the energy returned to the Earth from SPS itself. Once this condition is reached, the limits to growth on Earth can be completely removed. Figure 5 shows the parameter range in which this self-increasing condition is possible for SPS. The minimum values of the energy investment in SPS per year for which the self-increasing condition is possible are about 0.6-2.1% of the total energy usage rate per year on Earth for SCIDN values of 0.01-0.03. The quality of life can not recover to a high level compared with population and capital even in the high investment case. This is mainly caused by the large value of the crowding ratio with the increase of population. If the problem of crowding is removed, the quality of life shows the high level shown as a dashed line in Fig. 4. The utilization of ocean regions, underground facilities, taller buildings, and emigration to space could make such a result possible.
