It was also shown that the accuracy of concentrator manufacture need not exceed 12th accuracy rating and the permissible angle of surface irregularity misalignment is 3-5 milliradian. These requirements are quite reasonable, and they allow selection of the technological equipment and concentrator cost reduction. As noted above, using concentrators cuts down the expenditure for costly semiconductor materials (GaAs) and enables annealing of radiation-induced imperfections at elevated temperature (475K). The mass and cost of solar arrays with concentrators arc expected to be lower than those of conventional (planar) arrays. Apart from annealingof radiation-induced imperfections, GaAs semiconductors provide a higher photoelectric current as well as higher temperature stability. The main element of the solar array design with concentrators is a unified rectangular cell which measures 36mm x 45mm. The cell design employs a one-mirror off-axis optical reflector system which was developed at NIITP. The cell takes advantage of new GaAs photovoltaic converters.
