storage material and the remaining three pairs are set on the surface of the intermediate Pipe. Three pairs of thermocouples are set in the flow of the working fluid in the model storage unit. The set points are at 140 mm up of the inlet side of the model storage units, at returning point of the flow and at 250 mm down the outlet side of the model storage units. Figure 4 is a photograph of the model storage units set in the test equipment. Leads of the thermocouples are seen on the surface of the model storage units. The inlet of the working fluid is on the right side direction of the photograph. Test equipment Figure 5 shows a sectional view of the test position. The model storage units are set between the upper and lower electric heaters made of carbon. They are placed in the vacuum vessel. Each heater is divided into 6 parts along the longitudinal direction of the model storage units. The electric input into each part can be controlled individually in order to simulate heat input from the sun into an actual receiver. Reflectors made of carbon sheets envelop the heaters and the model storage units in order to reduce radiant heat
