Abstract/Description:

Curator Note: As with most NASA and long-time NASA Contractor analysis of SPS, this report does not deeply consider sourcing SPS materials from locations off of the surface of Earth. While understandable for those entities (typically companies making their money from expensive launches), this was and still is not the smartest or most economical way to source materials for large structures to be operated in space. This has always been an impediment to the creation of a beneficial and profitable SPS system, and there is no actual technological reason for it to continue to be such an impediment.
This report deals with impacts and benefits to occupational health associated with SPS. This includes injuries and illnesses which occur in all phases, from acquisition of raw materials to final operation and maintenance. It is indicated in this report that 99.86% of SPS manpower would be in conventional occupations and 0.14% will be engaged in space operations that are unique to the SPS.
